Newman Physical Education ...building skillful movers for today, tomorrow, and for a lifetime!
Welcome to Physical Education at the Newman Elementary School!
At Newman, we follow a skill themes and movement concepts approach - meaning, our main goal is to teach our students to become skillful movers who are able to participate in a variety of physical activities throughout their lifetime! Skills and lead-up games utilizing small groups with greater student participation serve as the foundation in our program. Skills taught and practiced are presented through games, dance, and gymnastics activities. Wellness and fitness concepts are continually woven into the curriculum/activities throughout the year. It is our hope that students will use the skills and concepts that they learn and practice in PE class in order to keep them active for at least 60 minutes per day!
Mr. Craig Brenhiser is joining our Newman wellness team this year after teaching at the Eliot school for the past 17 years. We are excited to have Mr. Brenhiser bring his knowledge, expertise, and teaching skills to Newman!
This year we are also excited to welcome Kat Jacobson and Jim Everhart to Newman. They will be teaching our kindergarten PE classes this year. We have quite the Newman Wellness Team!
Please note that for safety and comfort, children are expected to wear sneakers and "good moving clothes" on PE days. Please click on the "schedule" page to find your child's PE day(s)! * Note: All students in grade K-5 students have PE twice a week for 40 minutes.
Yours in Wellness, Ms. Smith Mr. Brenhiser Ms. Jacobson Mr. Everhart
