Meet the Newman Physical Educators
Mr. Craig Brenhiser, M. Ed Leadership
Upon completion of my teaching certification program at Bridgewater State University, I happily landed in Needham, MA as an elementary physical education teacher since the 2004-05 school year. Throughout my career I have taught in almost all of the elementary schools, but now join Newman as a full time PE staff member. In addition to my teaching obligations, I also serve as the Junior Varsity Boys Lacrosse Coach and a volunteer with the boys basketball program. My family includes my wife Michelle, who is a guidance counselor in the Needham Public Schools, and two wonderful daughters Bryn, and Kendall. I enjoy lots of outdoor activities like hiking, skiing, fishing, bike riding and playing various sports/games with my daughters. |
Ms. Kerri Smith, M.Ed. My name is Kerri Smith and I have been teaching physical education at Newman since the fall of 2005. Prior to that, I taught elementary physical education and health in the Springfield Public Schools from 1997-2005. I received my Bachelor of Science degree from Springfield College and my Master of Education degree from Lesley University and am currently licensed to teach preK-12 physical education. In addition to teaching children how to move, I have had the opportunity to work with many pre-service (student) teachers, and have proudly served on many curriculum and convention committees at the local, state, and national level - all opportunities to promote and advocate for quality physical education in our schools and for our children. Last year, I was proud, honored and excited to take on the role of President for the Massachusetts Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (MAHPERD). I look forward to continuing to advocate for daily physical education for every child in the state. In my spare time I enjoy playing softball, golf or any other moving activity; hanging with my cats; and spending time with my nephews Ben and Nathan and my niece Mollie! Mr. James Everhart
My name is Jim Everhart and this is my second year teaching in Needham. At Newman, I teach the kindergarten classes and one first grade class. On other days, I am at the Eliot School teaching K-5 PE. Before Needham, I was a teaching assistant in a special education program in Wellesley. I completed my master's in physical education and coaching from Boston University in 2016. My undergraduate degree is from St. Michael's College in Cholchester, VT where I played on the baseball team for all four years. Outside of school, I coach football and track & field. During my free time, I enjoy going on hikes with my wife, Marita, and our dog, Karma. We also ride bikes, go to the beach in the summer, and enjoy snowshoeing in the winter. I look forward to a great school year. [email protected] |
